What do I need to be able to do telehealth sessions?
All you need is a private, comfortable space; good Internet access; and a device with a camera (hands-free is preferred, so we recommend a computer). I do video sessions through a HIPAA-compliant portal. You can access sessions via any web browser or on the SimplePractice app. Typically, if you can stream videos without any issues, your Internet is good to go! Check out our tips for making the most of your telehealth session.
What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is a well-researched psychotherapy technique that helps people address past memories, present triggers, and future concerns. EMDR is a standardized protocol that taps into the brain’s natural healing process to help integrate distressing thoughts, emotions, and body sensations.
What’s unique about EMDR, is that it requires minimal talking about the distressing experience, and many clients reach their therapy goals quicker than with traditional talk therapy. EMDR in Dublin, Ohio is effective for helping people resolve symptoms from trauma and other distressing life experiences, PTSD, anxiety, depression, pain, and panic disorders. EMDR is also beneficial for gaining confidence, improving performance anxiety, and future triggering situations.
With EMDR Intensives, clients tend to move through their therapy goals even quicker than with weekly EMDR or weekly talk therapy sessions.
How do you do EMDR online?
There are lots of ways for us to do EMDR online! The key difference between remote or virtual EMDR and in-person EMDR in is the type of dual attention stimulus we use. In person, you might be used to a light bar or tappers. For online EMDR we frequently use more tactile, creative means of dual attention stimulus. Otherwise - the process for EMDR therapy online is typically the same as in person!
How long will I be in therapy?
It depends! How long you’re in therapy depends on what your goals are, your personal history, what form of treatment we’re using, and what you’re doing outside of the therapy hour to reinforce our work together. Some clients are with us for only a few sessions and feel as though they’ve met their goals, others are with us for months or 1-2 years.
Folks tend do move quicker through their therapy goals and require less overall treatment with EMDR Intensives because of the structure of sessions. One Intensive is like doing several weeks of therapy.
Do you see couples?
Yes! I provide Gottman Method couples therapy, Christian sex therapy, and Fair Play coaching for couples.
Do you work with teenagers or children?
No, I only work with adults over the age of 18.
I’m not Christian, can I still see you?
Absolutely. Clients of all belief systems and identities are warmly welcome and accepted here. I hold myself to the highest ethical professional standards and will never force my beliefs upon you. How much or how little we focus on spirituality during our sessions is entirely up to you as the client.
What does it mean to be EMDR Certified?
The EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), is the regulating body for mental health practitioners trained in EMDR therapy. Certification (as opposed to being “EMDR Trained”) is a voluntary process that requires several hours of advanced EMDR trainings and additional consultation, and evidence that a therapist has provided an established number of sessions using EMDR therapy with a number of different clients. Learn more about why EMDR certification matters.
EMDR certification demonstrates a therapist’s commitment to clinical excellence in EMDR therapy and staying up-to-date on the latest research and best practices.
